skillsLucy: In a game of perseverance to get to heal and get over injuries.

Matt: It is, very much so and there are times where straining on both practitioner and patient and after training, you are the first line of defense and offence because a lot of physical therapy training is prevention and if you do prevention upfront you shouldn’t have to work as much on the back hand but ACL is due their and that’s where it’s tough, we had, I think three, four of them last year and thankfully we don’t have any this year, knocking some wood real quick but it is, it’s a dated day, not even with injuries but just a prevention aspect coming in using the phone rollers, doing the door stretching ,the many band walks, it’s the little things that I try to show the athletes to care of their bodies through a season, whether it’d be two, three months which is shorter or upwards a five month the basketball season this year where there’s a long, drainy day to day process where thankfully we don’t have to use narcotics. We can use all of these techniques that can show them and they can learn.

Lucy: So it’s about keeping healthy and then to make the human process easier.

Matt: The human body heals itself, we’re just here to hopefully prevent it from breaking down too much and then expediting the process cause there’s nothing I can do that’s going to say, oh you’re healed, your muscles are good, the body takes time and that’s where you see with all the studies, as you grow older, it takes longer to heal but you can limit that with the resistant training, being up in the gym, being around people, we’re supposed to not sit on computers all day, to interact with the community and get out and dance every night.

That’s what the tribes used to do in Africa and they still do to a point so I want everyone of my athletes to make every single practice, every single game and I’m going to fail at that challenge, but I’m not pushing someone back if they’re not healthy, if they can go and they’re not going to cause themselves pain, cool, they’re not going to cause themselves more damage, I’m okay with it, but I am not for running an athlete back out there just because a coach needs their body and it is a dated day struggle cause coaches need their athletes, I want them in here, I want them out there healthy but I wait, maybe a little longer than I should but again we’re not getting paid, we’re in college here.

They are just here to have fun, enjoy the sport and that’s what is our level, I don’t want to put someone out there that’s going to cause long term damage if they’re not healthy, I understand the question and yes, you see people return to from ACL in four, five months and they are back out there but what of the long term ramifications, we don’t even know yet.

You know rushing these people back cause there are a lot of this quick return to play, ACL protocols and others but the ACL wants a big name, everybody knows ACL, do we know what we’re doing to these people long term, what’s going to happen to their needs later down the road, is it worth it?
